Every morning, 7 days a week, I do a writing practice. Just 10-15 minutes of writing on anything I want to write about. I have been doing prompts from The Writer’s Idea Book by Jack Heffron and the past 3 prompts were on my writing space. So after writing about it and realizing my desk was getting way too cluttered to get any work done, I decided to fix it up.
Yesterday, I spent the day cleaning and organizing my work area. Afterward, I hung up some photographs I took last year of flowers to make the space look more homey. I write in the dining room and have a screen that blocks me off from the rest of the house. It was rather dull before, but the pictures brighten it up. I was excited to work today in my nice, uncluttered space.
And it seems cleaning actually did something for me. I managed to write a short story today. It still needs to be edited and also typed on the computer, but at least it’s written and I am feeling good!
By the way, The Writer’s Idea Book is a great little book to have on hand. Whenever you feel blocked or just want something new to write about, there are more than 400 different prompts to get you started.
