Flash Fiction

Today I wrote a short fiction piece – it’s about 350 words.  I’ve been wanting to try my hand at flash fiction for quite awhile.  Mostly because it’s a challenge and I’ve been afraid to try because I didn’t think I would be able to do it.  I prefer writing slightly longer stories with dialogue.  But this was actually kind of fun and it only took about a 1/2 hour to write. The trick now is to edit it and still keep it under 500 words – I have a tendency to add rather than cut.  Of course, I may not submit the story anywhere, but at least I know I can write something so short and if it turns out to be a good story, I can always find a place to submit it.

  2. TiffanyK says:

Sorry… I have to edit it first.

  3. Did you write it based on a prompt or just off the top of your head?

  4. TiffanyK says:

It was based on a dream I had last night about tornadoes. I often have vivid dreams about them and decided to write a short piece about one hitting a town.

Haley Whitehall http://haleywhitehall.wordpress.com has a monthly flash fiction challenge that I try and take part in every month (normally with a 1 sentence prompt and 500 word limit). And Billie Jo Woods http://usaukwoods.wordpress.com has a fortnightly challenge as well. You should check them out and participate they are lots of fun!
