Can We Just Skip to Tuesday Please?

The holiday weekend is here — oh joy.  It might not be so bad if we didn’t live on the only road into and out to Las Vegas and Arizona.  But we do, and unless we want to spend our time in bumper to bumper traffic, we usually just stay home — an easy task since we both work from home.

It wasn’t so bad when we first moved here, but that all changed when they finished building a bypass around Hoover Dam.  See, before the bypass, all the tractor-trailers had to go around Boulder City — because of 9/11 they couldn’t pass over Hoover Dam.  Now that the bypass has been built we are getting 2000 more tractor-trailers and other large vehicles pass through here.  I don’t know for sure that it’s 2000, but that is what they predicted (it seems like more to me).  Anyway, it’s only a one lane road out to Arizona and 2 lanes into Las Vegas. How on earth did they think a measly three lane highway could accommodate all the extra traffic?  Obviously someone fell asleep at the job. Oh yeah, and Lake Mead is on the way toward Hoover Dam so we get all the lake traffic too which is a bear in the summer.

So now during the holidays, we don’t dare go out.  We did once, but a five minute drive home took nearly 30 minutes and we never did it again.  Tuesday can’t come fast enough!  Happy 4th everyone!

Happy 4th to you all, also! With all that traffic, you should open a truck stop diner. Think of the characters you would meet. Awesome material for novels, too!

    Ha! That’s a great idea!

I have to admit that I’ve been a guity party using that road in the summer/holiday traffic in the past. I grew up fishing Lake Mead with my dad and of course there is Vegas… ;0) I hope you find something fun to do at home for the holiday!
They shoot off fireworks across the street from our Apartments, so we get to enjoy a show from our padio. 🙂

I didn’t mind the traffic so much before the bypass was built. I really can’t blame anyone for wanting to go to the lake or Vegas. I think the biggest problem now is all the tractor-trailers that drive through.

I did venture out to the bookstore yesterday for coffee. Traffic wasn’t too bad and I managed not to buy any books! Enjoy your 4th!

I haven’t been up that way since the bypass. Last time I went it was about 1/2 way done. I can see the trailers being a issue. My parents live on a trucking route… it is horrible!
