Life’s Ups & Downs

I’m sitting here writing this post from the hotel room I’ve been staying at for over a week. I’m not on vacation although it kind of feels like I am. I’m here because a water pipe burst in our house causing major water damage. Our carpet has been torn up, we have holes in our walls and our ceiling. Our bed is sitting in the living room. The house is a mess. We’ve checked out and checked back in the hotel a total of three times. Each time we try to spend the night at the house I end up getting sick–headaches, nausea, etc.–so I pretty much have to stay away. Of course my husband has little problem and he’s there every day while I’m holed up here with our pets.

The first few days we were here, I got a lot of reading and writing done, but the longer we stay, the harder it seems to be to write. I’m tired and I want to go back home. They haven’t even begun to make the repairs on our house yet. I don’t think I’ll be back for at least a week.

It’s not all bad though. We’re on the top floor with a gorgeous view of Lake Mead, which is what I’m staring at as I type this. It’s also very quiet, except for the birds chirping and the dogs barking. And free coffee–as much as I want!

So today I’m going to get back to writing. I feel more focused today and I’m too exhausted to do anything else. Just one more cup of coffee and I’m good to go!
