Book Review: Distant Shores

Distant ShoresDistant Shores by Kristin Hannah
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The story is about Elizabeth and Jack. They married at the end of their senior year in college and Elizabeth gave up her dream of painting to be a mother and a wife. Now she feels like life has passed her by and she needs to make a change. The story is told from both Elizabeth’s and Jack’s POV. While the majority of the novel focused on Elizabeth, I found I liked Jack’s scenes much better. Elizabeth came off as boring and whiny–blaming everyone and everything else for the reasons she didn’t become a painter. Jack was a much more interesting character. I did like the scenes between Elizabeth and her step-mother that took place later on in the book. Overall, I enjoyed the story line and the book pulled me through quickly.
